Oftentimes professional IT teams need to work on the same WiFi site survey project simultaneously in different parts of the building taking measurements on several computers and later merge their resulting snapshots into one project to create an exhaustive wireless site survey report that would account for changes in the environment over a period of time.

Let’s see how to handle such projects with confidence in NetSpot:
- Create a new survey project in NetSpot. Here’s how to start a new survey in NetSpot.
Once you’ve created your new survey project, export it with File > Export Project… (or right-click the project on the project screen and select Export…). Then share the .netspu file with other engineers who will be taking measurements on their computers.
- The engineers can now import the project with File > Import Project… in their NetSpot app and start making snapshots for the zones they are surveying.
- After all the measurements have been taken, the projects can be merged into one.
- Import all instances of the project into NetSpot on one computer, select all needed projects on NetSpot’s project landing screen (click on one project, then Shift-click or Command-click the others). Right-click any of the selected projects and click Merge X Projects… (X is the number of selected projects).
- Merge the projects into one:
- Enter a name for the merged project in the Merged project name field, and select the zones to be merged.
- Under Source zones on the left you can see the zones from the projects you are about to merge. The identical zones from projects from different computers are grouped together. Under Destination zones on the right you can see the zones the merged project will contain.
- You can save the identical zones as one by leaving the “Save identical zones as one” checkbox ticked.
- Click Merge X Projects in the lower-right corner of the window. NetSpot will create a new project with the merged zones and add it to the project landing screen. The original projects stay unchanged.
- Now you can merge snapshots within their respective zones. Open a zone, click the snapshot name above the map and select Merge Snapshots.
In the window that opens, enter a name in the Merged snapshot name field, select the snapshots you want to merge and click Merge X snapshots.
As a result you are getting the final zone snapshot generated from several snapshots made by different NetSpot users on different computers at various times.
Project merging is an essential feature for the tech teams working on the same wireless network setup. This way they can get a varied set of data collected at different times under different conditions merged together for the representation of an average wireless signal strength and distribution.
